On the earthquake in Chile: Joint statement by High Representative/Vice-President Federica Mogherini and Commissioner Christos Stylianides

In the aftermath of the earthquake in Chile, High Representative and Vice-President Federica Mogherini and the EU Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Response Christos Stylianides made the following statement:

The major earthquake which occurred in Chile last night affected around 1 million people in the country. Our thoughts and sympathy go to those affected by the catastrophe and to the Chilean people.

While the Government of Chile is making the full assessment of the casualties and damages, the European Commission's Emergency Response Coordination Centre is closely following the situation.
