EU News 250/2015

17 September, 2015

On Friday 11 September, the Ambassador of the European Union to Japan, Mr. Viorel Isticioaia-Budura, visited Akita International University to give a lecture entitled 'Updates on Recent Developments in the EU and the EU-Japan Partnership' to a group of nearly 200 students and members of the general public. The lecture was very well received, with a large number of interesting questions posed to the Ambassador afterwards.

The lecture took place as part of a series organised by Akita International University alongside the Akita Sakigake Shimbun. During his visit to Akita, the Ambassador paid a courtesy call on the Governor of Akita Prefecture, Mr. Norihisa Satake, where issues such as education, agriculture and the ongoing EU-Japan Free Trade Agreement were discussed. The Ambassador also met with the President of Akita International University, Prof. Norihiko Suzuki, and congratulated him on the university reaching its 10th anniversary in 2014.

Prior to the main lecture, the Ambassador also took part in an informal discussion on the EU and EU-Japan relations, with a group of Akita International University students, including a number of European exchange students currently studying in Akita.
