Ambassador of the EU to Japan visits Akita International University

On Friday 11 September, the Ambassador of the European Union to Japan, Mr. Viorel Isticioaia-Budura, visited Akita International University to give a lecture entitled 'Updates on Recent Developments in the EU and the EU-Japan Partnership' to a group of nearly 200 students and members of the general public. The lecture was very well received, with a large number of interesting questions posed to the Ambassador afterwards.

The lecture took place as part of a series organised by Akita International University alongside the Akita Sakigake Shimbun. During his visit to Akita, the Ambassador paid a courtesy call on the Governor of Akita Prefecture, Mr. Norihisa Satake, where issues such as education, agriculture and the ongoing EU-Japan Free Trade Agreement were discussed. The Ambassador also met with the President of Akita International University, Prof. Norihiko Suzuki, and congratulated him on the university reaching its 10^th anniversary in 2014.

Prior to the main lecture, the Ambassador also took part in an informal discussion on the EU and EU-Japan relations, with a group of Akita International University students, including a number of European exchange students currently studying in Akita.
