EU Film Days 2015 to kick off on 29 May

The 13th edition of the highly successful EU Film Days will take place at the National Film Center (NFC), The National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo from Friday, 29 May to Sunday, 21 June. This year, the festival will showcase films from 24 European Union Member States. Twelve of these films will be shown in Japan for the first time.

Co-organised by the Delegation of the EU to Japan, EU Member States' embassies and cultural institutes in Japan, and National Film Center (NFC), The National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo, EU Film Days brings the best of European cinema to audiences in Japan. This unique festival is held as part of EU-Japan Friendship Week, during which a wide range of activities and events are held across Japan celebrating relations between Japan and Europe.

Some of the screenings will be paired with events featuring special guests (please see EU Film Days Official Website below for details):

  • Tangerines (Estonia)
  • Rocks in my pockets (Latvia, 30 May screening only)
  • The Ambassador to Bern (Hungary, 3 June screening only)
  • Ida (Poland, 6 June screening only)
  • To See the Sea (Czech Republic)
  • Candidate (Slovakia, 9 June screening only)
  • Santa (Lithuania, 18 June screening only)

 

Additionally, there will be special programmes featuring films shown in previous editions of EU Film Days, as well as an event targeting people studying filmmaking or those with a special interest in films held at the Film School of Tokyo (7 June).

Films from 18 Member States will also be shown in the city of Kyoto, at the Museum of Kyoto, from Wednesday, 1 July to Sunday, 12 July.
