European Higher Education Fair goes from strength to strength, Record number of EU Member States to take part

EU News 96/2015

10 April 2015

The Delegation of the European Union (EU) to Japan, together with several other entities[1], will organise in May the 'European Higher Education Fair 2015'. Building on the continued success of this event since its launch in 2012, this year will see a record 66 booths in Tokyo. Furthermore, 15 EU Member States – the largest number to date – are taking part, with Denmark and Greece joining for the first time.

The fair aims to showcase some of the most interesting higher education programmes Europe has to offer. The 2014 event saw over 2,000 visitors attend over three days: a clear indication of the heightened interest among Japanese students and researchers to study in Europe.

At the fair, which will take place on 15-16 May at Meiji University's Surugadai Campus in Tokyo and 17 May at Doshisha University's Imadegawa Campus in Kyoto, 32 higher education institutions and 16 embassies/official education promotion agencies will provide the latest information on their study programmes and courses. EU programmes open to students and researchers, such as Erasmus+ and those under the Horizon 2020 framework, will also be promoted.

The event will offer individual presentations by the institutions, as well as a keynote lecture, seminar for high school students, a European languages workshop (all in Tokyo only) and  panel discussions with Japanese who have studied in Europe (Tokyo and Kyoto).

Europe is the global leader in providing study programmes for international students. In 2012, nearly two million international students benefitted from its high academic standards, reasonable tuition fees, advanced research facilities and diverse cultural and social fabric.

For the first time, the 'TOBITATE!' study abroad campaign launched by Japan's Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology will also have a booth, underscoring the Japanese government's continued interest in stepping up efforts to foster more internationally minded 'global professionals' and the potential held by European academic institutions in this regard.
