Top EU officials to take part in UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction

European Commission Vice-President Kristalina Georgieva and Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management Commissioner Christos Stylianides will be visiting Japan to attend the Third UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction to be held in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture, on 14-18 March.
The European Union and its Member States are together the largest aid donor in the world, and the upcoming conference will be a unique opportunity to showcase the various approaches and projects undertaken by Europe to tackle disaster risk.
During the Sendai conference, the European Commission will be involved in two events on Monday, 16 March, that are open to the general public:
Towards Disaster Resilience: Reducing Risks from Technological Accidents Triggered by Natural Hazards
Time: 9:00-12:00
Place: Room A106, Kawauchi-kita Campus, Tohoku University
Language: English only
EU Cooperation to Enhance Resilience and Disaster Risk Reduction
Time: 14:00-17:00
Place: Multimedia Hall, Kawauchi-kita Campus, Tohoku University
Language: English with Japanese interpretation
