EU News 481/2014

4 December 2014

The European Commission, together with the Japanese Ministry for Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, is holding today in Tokyo the second meeting of the EU-Japan Industrial Dialogue on Railways. The Dialogue has been set up in the framework of the ongoing EU-Japan FTA negotiations. It brings together representatives of the public and private sector of the respective parties. The objective of the Dialogue is to promote mutually beneficial cooperation and information exchange between the participants. This should facilitate bilateral trade in the railway sector, including procurement and purchases by private operators. The topics on the agenda of the second meeting include discussion on the measures undertaken by the Japanese procuring entities and private companies to ensure greater transparency in their procurement, exchange of best practices on market access and presentations of technical regulations and safety standards in the EU and Japan. The meeting will further deepen the existing business contacts between the industries.
