EU Delegation welcomes new deputy head and science and technology section chief

Two new diplomats – Mr Jonathan Hatwell and Dr Leonidas Karapiperis – have joined the Delegation of the European Union to Japan this month. Mr Hatwell is the new deputy head of Delegation, while Dr Karapiperis is the new head of its Science and Technology Section.

Prior to his assignment in Japan, Mr Hatwell was head of division at the European External Action Service, dealing with the European Union's relations with Latin America and the Caribbean. He has also previously served as EEAS head of division for Japan, Korea, Australia and New Zealand.

Dr Karapiperis was advisor for relations with international organisations and other issues at the European Commission's Directorate-General for Research and Innovation from 1999. Between 1995 and 1999, he was press and cultural counsellor at what was then the Delegation of the European Commission in Japan.
