Winners of the Fifth Japan-EU English Haiku Contest announced

The Delegation of the European Union (EU) to Japan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan jointly hosted the Fifth Japan-EU English Haiku Contest under the theme 'Wonderful Encounter' from 7 May to 27 June, 2014.

The total number of entries was 613: 296 entries from Japan and 317 entries from the EU Member States.

After careful selection, Ms Mayu Sunamura and Mr Robert Lommen have been chosen to be awarded Grand Prizes on the Japanese and EU sides, respectively. As the prizes, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan will invite Mr Robert Lommen and the EU Delegation will invite Ms Mayu Sunamura to Matsuyama, which is considered to be the birthplace of modern haiku in Japan.

Five Honourable Mentions have also been selected in each side. Those who won honourable mentions will be offered commemorative gifts from the city of Matsuyama or the EU Delegation.
