ECFR's Tokyo workshop concluded successfully

EU News 289/2014

1 July 2014

A six-day workshop organised in Tokyo by the European Council on Foreign Relations ended successfully on 27 June.

Titled 'How Do Asians See Their Future?', the event brought together top foreign policy experts from both Europe and Asia for deep discussions that encompassed a wide range of timely topics, including the role of historical perceptions in Asian foreign policy, responses to the impact of China in the region and the balance of trade in Asia. Participants looked at Europe’s stake in these events, addressing the role of Europe and international institutions on a wider scale.

This workshop was made possible thanks to the support of partners from across Europe and Asia, as well as the presence of pre-eminent foreign policy thinkers from the Indo-Pacific region in collaboration with Japanese officials, intellectuals and media representatives.

Described by one Asian partner as the 'largest European delegation' they had ever received, results from this groundbreaking tour will go on to shape the future of the Asia-Europe foreign policy agenda.
