Introducing our new staff member: EUPAN, the cute robot

EU News 292/2014

30 June 2014

Following our challenge to find a name for the cute robot that suddenly appeared on the wall of the Delegation of the European Union in Tokyo, we now have the great pleasure to announce the results of our competition.

We received a total of 40 submissions from across Japan. This posed a severe challenge to our evaluation committee, which was drawn from embassies of various European countries, members of the Habataki Project, and staff from the EU Delegation's Science and Technology Section, especially as the quality of the submissions was very high.

After many hours of consideration and discussion, we are now pleased to announce that the joint winners of the first prize are:
EUPAN - Rina TAKESHITA (Osaka)
EU-PAN Kun - Masako OKAMOTO (Hiroshima)

The two winners will each win four tickets to visit Miraikan, the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation, and will be invited to the EU Delegation in Tokyo to meet with the EU Ambassador to Japan, Hans Dietmar Schweisgut, as well as see EUPAN itself on our wall.

The runner-up of the contest is:
EUROBO - Ryo KUROKI (Kanagawa)

The runner-up will be presented with two tickets to Miraikan.

The name EUPAN was officially announced in front of the cute robot by Director General Jan Truszczyński from the Directorate General for Education and Culture during his visit in Tokyo in late June.

We would like to sincerely thank all those who participated and submitted a name for consideration.
So, here again is EUPAN, our new robot helper in the Delegation, helping us spread the word about the benefits and importance of collaboration in research and innovation between the EU and Japan.
