“Tastes of Europe. Quality guaranteed” EU Pavilion in FOODEX JAPAN closes successfully

EU News 104/2014

2014/03/10

The European Union (EU) Pavilion at the FOODEX JAPAN 2014 came to a successful close last Friday. This year, FOODEX JAPAN 2014 was visited by 75,766 (organiser figures) professionals, many of whom had the chance to explore high-quality European products and experience their unique taste over the course of four days. European producers and producer associations at the EU Pavilion exhibited a broad range of products carrying one of the four European quality logos.

The selection included PDO Mozzarella di Bufala Campana, the famous Italian spun cheese, TSG Jamón Serrano from Spain, various PDO extra virgin olive oils from Italy, Spain and Greece, and a wide range of PDO and PGI wines from Portugal, Spain, Italy, Romania and Germany. The visitors also tasted some lesser known products, such as PGI pumpkin seed oil from Slovenia. A great variety of organic products from all over Europe was also represented at the stand.

During the four days, Japanese food professionals had the opportunity to personally meet European producers and secure business deals. There are several benefits for those who import European products with the quality logos: for instance buyers can be assured that the product is of genuine quality and produced according to rigorous specifications. The Japanese visitors were able to learn about these benefits and the policy behind the four logos during the presentations which were held at the EU Pavilion daily.

Cooking demonstrations by Chef Dominique Corby of Le Cordon Bleu provided Japanese visitors with several ideas on how to prepare European recipes or Japanese-style dishes using European high-quality ingredients.

The EU participation at FOODEX JAPAN 2014 was part of the Tastes of Europe campaign in Japan. The campaign started last year in November with an aim to raise awareness of the European four quality logos in Japan.
