As a result of EUBAM's engagement in Libya, the Libyan authorities approved this month a joint EUBAM–Customs working group to study the re-organisation of the Libyan Customs. This group will review the structure of the Libyan Customs so as to ensure that it supports the overall objective and tasks of the agency. In this way the new recruits, and others whom EUBAM and Libya Customs train up, will be able to use their new skills to help Libya’s safety, security and economic growth.

As a civilian crisis management mission with a capacity-building mandate, EUBAM Libya's border management experts meet with their counterparts in the Libyan Customs, Border Police, Coast Guard and Border Guard on a weekly basis. Through these advising and mentoring activities, the Mission strives to support Libya in developing an integrated border management strategy and in strengthening the capacities for Libyan agencies to implement the strategy in accordance with international standards.

The EUBAM Libya Mission started in May 2013 and is now the largest international presence in the field. The Mission will continue to advise the Libyan Customs through the joint working group, as well as other Libyan border management agencies.
