Tastes of Europe on show at the FOODEX JAPAN from 4 to 7 March 2014

The European Union (EU) will participate at FOODEX JAPAN 2014 from 4 to 7 March with an exhibition pavilion  hosting about 20 European producers and producer associations from all over Europe. The producers represent a variety of European high-quality food products and beverages carrying the following four EU quality logos:

These logos guarantee that the product is of genuine quality and produced according to rigorous specifications. They can be easily recognised on the product packaging and identify products linked to their geographical origin, and as organic products. The impressive list of  such European products on show includes the finest extra-virgin olive oils from Spain, Italy and Greece, Serranoham and Valencian rice from Spain, Mozzarella di Bufala Campana from Italy, Anglesey Sea Salt from the United Kingdom and top-quality wines from Portugal, Germany, Romania, Spain and Italy. A large selection of organic products will also be on display.

The EU presence at the fair is part of the "Tastes of Europe–Quality guaranteed“ campaign that was launched during the visit of European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr Dacian Ciolos, to Japan in November last year. Designed to inform the Japanese public about the four logos, the campaign aims to stimulate interest among Japanese food professionals and consumers towards high-quality European products that bear these quality logos.

As Commissioner Ciolos explained, the EU's agricultural quality policy asserts firm requirements to guarantee a high level of standards for all European products. "The EU has created quality schemes that identify and protect products of genuine quality and authenticity to help consumers recognise these standards within national and international marketplaces. The quality logos on each of the product packages guarantee that the product is produced according to rigorous specifications and its contents are gen uine and not counterfeit", he said.

With the launch last year of negotiations toward anEU-Japan Free Trade Agreement (FTA), the EU presence at FOODEX 2014 will be a great opportunity to foster existing and future business relationships. At the EU pavilion, visitors will have the opportunity to attend cooking shows, follow presentations on different European food products, experience food tastings and meet producers.
