EU and Japan conclude fourth round of Strategic Partnership Agreement negotiations

The European Union and Japan held their fourth round of negotiations toward a bilateral Strategic Partnership Agreement (SPA) in Brussels from 22 to 24 January. The latest meetings resulted in progress, with the two sides deepening the discussion on the agreement's content.
The EU side was headed by Viorel Isticioaia-Budura, managing director for Asia and the Pacific at the European External Action Service, while the Japanese negotiating team was led by Koichi Hasegawa, deputy director general of the European Affairs Bureau of Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The timing of the next round of SPA negotiations is to be decided.
