Visit of Robert-Jan Smits, Director-General of DG Research and Innovation, European Commission of the EU at LIMMS

On 21 June DG Robert-Jan Smits visited LIMMS (Laboratory of Integrated Micro Mechatronic Systems) where he met Prof. Matsumoto, Executive Vice President of the University of Tokyo, Prof. Nakano, Director General of the Institute of Industrial Science of the University of Tokyo (UT-IIS) and Prof. Fujii, Deputy Director of the Institute of Industrial Science and LIMMS-EUJO-LIMMS Co-Director. EU delegates met also European researchers currently conducting their research at LIMMS. Presentation of their projects was followed by the study tour and visit in so-called 'Cleanroom'.

LIMMS is a joint laboratory between the French CNRS (National Institute of Sciences for Engineering and Systems - INSIS) and the University of Tokyo (Institute of Industrial Science - IIS), with the special support from the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS). Since its creation in 1995 the laboratory has been working in the field of micro/ nanotechnologies and Bio-MEMS. In April 2004, the laboratory acquired the status of International Research Centre from both CNRS and IIS. LIMMS researchers are hosted in 15 research groups that are mainly located in the Komaba Research Campus (Institute of Industrial Science) of the University of Tokyo. Since December 2011, LIMMS and its EUJO-LIMMS extension became the European Commission’s first international laboratory in Japan.'
