Second European Higher Education Fair in Japan a huge success

EU News 243/2013

22 May 2013

Following on from the highly successful first event held last year, the second European Higher Education Fair ran at Meiji University in Tokyo on Friday 17th and Saturday 18th May and at Doshisha University in Kyoto on Sunday 19th. The event showcased to Japanese students, researchers, as well as to those already in employment looking  to bolster their career through the acquisition of additional qualifications, some of the most interesting higher education programmes that Europe has to offer.

The event was a major success with a total of 1900 students visiting over the three days of the fair. A huge increase on the 1300 students that visited the 2012 event. In all nearly 50 European universities from over 10 EU member states took part in the EHEF to discuss opportunities for studying abroad directly with students. Individual presentations by institutions, as well as seminars on opportunities for study and research abroad were also held and greatly appreciated by the students.

On the evening of the 16th May a networking reception for European and Japanese universities was held, with opening remarks by Minister and Deputy Head of the EU Delegation, Ms. Maeve Collins, Vice President of Meiji University, Professor Etsuko Katsu, and Director-General of the Higher Education Bureau at MEXT, Ms. Kumiko Bando.

The fair was also visited by the Ambassador of France H.E. Mr Christian Masset on the 17th May in Tokyo, and by the Mayor of Kyoto City, Mr. Daisaku Kadokawa on the 19th May at Doshisha University.
