Statement by High Representative Catherine Ashton on the terrorist attack in Algeria

The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice President of the Commission issued the following statement today:

"On behalf of the EU 27, I express my sympathy to the families of the victims of the terrorist attack at the gas plant at In Amenas in Algeria.

I express my support for the Algerian authorities and the governments of those killed and injured.

These events show once again the threat posed by violent extremist groups in North Africa and throughout the world. We will continue to work closely with our international partners to combat terrorism."
