1 October 2012
The European Union (EU) will organise in Tokyo on 9-10 October a symposium to discuss policies and strategies to deal with ageing society, a common challenge for both Europe and Japan, particularly from the viewpoint of how it presents new economic and technological opportunities.
The two-day event will bring together experts and policymakers from both the EU and Japan to share their views, experiences and successes in tackling this demographic change and will also look specifically at mutual responses to the challenges that have been made possible through research and innovation.
Co-organised by the European Economic and Social Committee, the European Commission, the Delegation of the EU to Japan and the EU-Japan Centre for Industrial Cooperation, the symposium aims to highlight how the EU and Japan might learn from their respective actions in this important policy field.
