European Fisheries Commissioner Damanaki to visit Japan

Maria Damanaki, European Commissioner in charge of fisheries and maritime affairs, will be visiting Japan 9-12 July for a high-level meeting on fisheries and maritime policy between the European Union and Japan. During her stay, she is also expected to visit areas in the Tohoku region that were affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake of March 2011.

InTokyo, the Commissioner will meet her Japanese counterpart, Minister for Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Akira Gunji, where they are expected to sign a joint statement on illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing activities. She will also give a lecture on EU fisheries policy at the University of Tokyo, as well as hold meetings with Japanese politicians and businesspeople.

In the Tohoku region, she is to meet with Miyagi Gov. Yoshihiro Murai and visit Onagawa port.
