Public consultation on the future of EU Development Policy

A number of important agreements and political commitments were adopted during the year 2015 including the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the Addis Ababa Action Agenda and the Paris Agreement on Climate Change. Work is now ongoing to implement, monitor and follow-up on these important documents.

The EU (European Commission) foresees the adoption of an initiative outlining the approach to the internal and external implementation of the 2030 Agenda. This new initiative will show the significance of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for the EU.

In this framework, the EU has launched a public consultation on the future of the EU Development Policy. This will be a proposal for a shared vision and shared action in development policy for both the EU and its Member States which will help promote progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals.

The European Commission welcomes views from all stakeholders in Japan. Views from this consultation will be used to inform the way forward on the revision of the European Consensus on Development and other external aspects of 2030 Agenda implementation. The consultation seeks your views on how development policy, in the context of EU external action, should respond to the range of landmark 2015 summits and conferences, and also to the rapid changes happening in the world.
