The partnership between the European Union and the United States  stays strong and can become even stronger in the future, despite the recent referendum in the United Kingdom, High Representative Federica Mogherini said today.

The EU-US partnership remains “strong and crucial, not only for the benefits of our people but also for peace and security in the world”, Mogherini told a joint press conference with US Secretary of State John Kerry, on the eve of the EU summit where she will present leaders with her Global Strategy, a blueprint for EU foreign policy in the years to come.

Together with European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, Mogherini discussed with Kerry the situation resulting from the UK referendum, ahead of a special meeting of the Commission and the EU summit on Tuesday and Wednesday, which will be dominated by the discussion over so-called ‘Brexit’.
