Federica Mogherini joins G7 Foreign Ministers in Japan

Federica Mogherini and the G7 Foreign Ministers met in Hiroshima at the weekend to discuss international issues such as countering terrorism and violent extremism, the refugee crisis, Syria, Libya, events in the Middle East and Ukraine.

Also on the agenda was maritime security, cyber issues, disarmament and non-proliferation, Africa, and Asian affairs.

After the meeting they issued a Joint Communiqué of which the preamble said: "The G7 shares common values and principles, including democracy, respect for the rule of law, free, fair and open markets, respect for territorial integrity, and respect for human rights and international humanitarian law. We are united in standing together to meet challenges to the universal values that we share and the rules-based international order that we cherish and benefit from. We are determined to employ coordinated efforts and action to tackle global challenges including terrorism and violent extremism, political instability as well as new types of security threats or non-traditional threats." The two day meeting also saw Mogherini and all Ministers visit the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park and Museum to lay wreaths to honour the victims of the 1945 atomic bomb.
