On the occasion of the visit of Prof. Dingwell, the Secretary General of European Research Council (ERC) to Japan as part of “ERC goes Global” campaign, the Delegation of the European Union to Japan organizes the seminar "ERC goes Global- Its Funding Principles and Granting Mechanism for Top Researchers outside EU - ", at three venues in Osaka (2 July), Tsukuba and Tokyo (3 July).

The European Research Council (ERC), which is the principal component of IDEAS Programme of the EU's Seventh Research Framework Programme (FP7), is the European funding body set up to support investigator-driven frontier research. Its grants are awarded through open competition to projects headed by starting and established researchers, irrespective of their nationalities, who are working or moving to work inEurope.  The "ERC goes Global" campaign aims to achieve brain circulation in the world.

The ERC's two core funding schemes are the 'ERC Starting Grants' for younger, early-career top researchers and the 'ERC Advanced Grants' for senior research leaders. The grants cover all research fields, ranging from natural sciences to social sciences and humanities.

Those who are interested in engaging in frontier research activities in Europe with ERC funding are particularly encouraged to attend one of our seminars.

In addition, with entry into force of EU-Japan Science and Technology Agreement in 2011, increasing number of Japanese researchers are participating in FP7, and more and more EU-Japan joint calls for proposals are open. Those who are interested in participating in FP7 for research cooperation with Europe are also welcome to join, as general explanation of cooperation opportunities in FP7 for researchers in Japan will be given at the seminars.
